WWW-YES-2008

7th edition of the World Wide Workshop for Young Environmental Scientists (WWW-YES-2008)

13 - 16 May 2008 at Créteil, France

General programme

The workshop has taken place at Maison des Syndicats, 11 rue des Archives at 94000 CRETEIL (phone: +33 (0)1 43 39 50 49) (5 km South-East of Paris) from Tuesday 13 May to Friday 16 May 2008 from 9:00 to 17:30.

1/ Oral presentations (DAY 1 - DAY 3)

Each participant had to prepare a technical / scientific presentation, in English, on his / her research project and be ready for detailed scientific discussion during the workshop. The attendance is limited to 30 doctoral or post-doctoral students, in order to give enough time for scientific presentation of 30 min and the discussion of 15 min with other participants.

The workshop topic " Urban Water, resource or risks, the North-South perspective" is open, i.e. not targeted towards a specific scientific field. Each participant should use at least 2 keywords (except urban water) in his/her paper from the following list:

Urban water + resources, ecosystem, quality, drainage, collecting systems, sewers, discharges, overflow, treatment, re-use, recycling (water and or nutrients), ecological sanitation, rainwater harvesting, sanitation, pollution, contaminants, pathogens, source control, water born deseases control, toxicity, flooding, modelling, risk assessment, management, decision support systems, politics, geopolitcs, social conflicts, gender issues, sustainable development, developing countries.

The WWW-YES organising committee intends to publish selected, refereed and possibly revised manuscripts within a special issue Open Source proceedings collection (see below).

2/ Field visit (DAY 2)

A half-day of the workshop was dedicated to a technical visit related to themes of water management in the conurbation of Paris.

3/ Collaborative projects (DAY 3 - DAY 4)

During two half-day sessions, participants have prepared jointly international collaborative projects on ongoing research activities on urban waters. These projects had to answer a virtual call for proposals for scientific North-South co-operation on topics implied by the decentralized co-operation. The proposals were presented, at the end of the workshop, to a panel of experts (Scientists, NGOs, and international cooperation representatives) in order to further develop them and possibly obtain a support for the future scientific collaborations.
